Getting started with the Player embed is a 2-step process:
- Create a Player and configure a set of features
- Choose an integration method and embed the player on your properties
If you've already created your Player and would like to get started with the integration, please read our dedicated guide.
Dailymotion Pro allows you to create multiple Players to build a watching experience that fits your needs and your audience expectations.
Each Player created has its own ID and label, which allows you to easily track your Player performance, customize its features and organize your different integrations.
In this article, you'll learn how to create and manage a Player, and understand the different customization options available.
Create a Player
You can easily create a Player in just a few steps:
- Log into your Dailymotion Studio, go in Embeds > Players
- Click on Create player
- Name your Player and customize it with the different parameters available
See customization options below in Get into the Player features & settings - Click on Save
That's it! Your Player is now created and a unique ID has been assigned to it. You can edit your Player configuration at any time and change the different settings available.
Default Player configuration optimized for monetization
By default, the Players created from your Dailymotion Studio are set with a configuration maximizing your Player's viewability and monetization. Updating this configuration might decrease monetization opportunities.

- Click on the Player you want to edit
- Adjust parameters
See customization options below in Get into the Player features & settings - Click on Save once you're done with your edits
Preview your Player in different environments
You can easily check how your Player is rendering in different environments (Desktop, Tablet, Mobile) by using the Preview feature:
- From your Dailymotion Studio, go in Embeds > Players
- Click on the Player you want to check and click on the Full Preview button
You will be redirected to a sample page, allowing you to interact with your embedded Player configuration in different environments.

Player information
Player name
Give a specific name to your Player to identify it easily.
You can create several Players with different configurations and behaviors: giving a name to your Players enables you to easily browse and identify your different configurations.
Tips
We recommend naming your Players based on their location on your properties. For example: "Homepage Player”, "Sidebar Player", "Article Player", "Android Player" etc...
Playback behavior
Autostart
Define if the Player should automatically try to start the content once ready.
- On: Playback starts as soon as the Player is loaded, delivering instant engagement without user interaction. For a seamless transition, the Player shows the first frame of the video while it's loading.
- Off: Playback only starts on user interaction. The Player shows the video thumbnail while waiting for user interaction.
- First time viewable: If you enabled autostart, you can choose to add "First time viewable" so the video playback starts once the user has the Player in view, delivering instant engagement without user interaction.
Important
Each internet browser has implemented different set of rules which can have an impact on the autostart behavior.
More information about the autostart integration and the browser autoplay policies.
Autonext
Define if the next video plays automatically after the current one ends, or if the user should manually pick a content:
- On: The next video is automatically played after the countdown (number of seconds set by you) once the current one is over. This helps keep viewers engaged with continuous playback. To increase engagement even more, consider combining "Autonext" with "Display watch now card".
- Off: The next videos are displayed, but they won't start without an interaction from the user.
Autonext on.
Autoskip
When Autonext is enabled, you can also enable Autoskip to automatically skip the current video after a countdown that you set. During the countdown, the viewer can choose to whether keep watching the content or skip. This feature helps retain active viewers and streamline the experience.
- On: The current content can automatically be skipped if there is no user interaction after the time interval you set.
- Off: The current content is played until the end.
Autoskip on.
Note
When the video duration and the timer you set are too close, Autoskip isn't triggered to preserve the user experience.
Start muted Coming soon
Use Start muted setting to define whether your Player starts with audio muted.
- On: The Player starts muted and does not attempt to start playback with sound.
- Off: The Player first attempts to start playback with sound. If the browser blocks autoplay with sound, the Player automatically falls back to muted playback.
Picture-in-Picture
Picture-in-Picture (PiP) is a mini floating Player activated when the main Player is out of the viewport.
By default, this mini Player is displayed at the bottom right on wide screens and at the top on narrow screens.
- On: PiP launches once the main Player is playing but is no longer in the user's viewport. This allows viewers to multitask while staying connected and engaged to the content.
- Off: PiP disabled.
PiP on.
| Additional PiP settings | Description |
|---|---|
| Optimize PiP interface for Google ads | If you use Google Ad Manager, enable this feature to ensure the PiP interface complies with Google Ad Manager monetization guidelines |
| Instant | PiP launches as soon as the Player is loaded |
| Placement |
Change the placement of the player PiP. This setting will override any custom CSS. You can select one of the four options :
|
PiP can be customized to fit your user experience needs: check our guide for more information about our PiP customization and positioning.

Define the level of detail shared with advertising entities about the URL where the Player is embedded.
-
On: The Player will share with ad entities the full URL of the page where it is embedded.
Ex: https://example.com/precise-page-url-where-player-is-embedded/
This is equivalent to theno-referrer-when-downgradereferrer policy.
Giving access to the full URL allows ad entities to better understand the context of the page where the Player is embedded and improve ad targeting, which may result in higher ad revenue.
Important: Make sure no sensitive information such as personal identifiers or authentication tokens are included in URLs as these will be shared.
-
Off: the Player will only share with ad entities the top level URL of the page where it is embedded.
Ex: Player will share https://example.com even if it is embedded on https://example.com/precise-page-url-where-player-is-embedded/
The browser's default referrer policy applies, usuallystrict-origin-when-cross-origin
Note: Disabling this feature may impact your monetization
Recommendations
Automatic recommendations
Automatic recommendations suggests additional content to your audience once your video is over.
- On: A selection of videos is automatically recommended to viewers at the end of the playback.
-
Off: There won't be any automatic recommendations at the end of the playback.
Please note that removing the automatic recommendations has an impact on the views and user engagement generated on your content.
If enabled, you can fine-tune the selection and decide if the automatic recommendations should be optimized for monetization, engagement or views.
| Recommendation model | Characteristics |
|---|---|
| Monetization | Recommends videos with high revenue potential |
| Engagement | Recommends videos relevant to the initial one, with a focus on content generating more user interactions |
| Views | Recommends videos relevant to the initial one, with a focus on content generating more views |
Note
- The optimization model will first select the most relevant content from your channel’s video inventory.
- If you don’t have enough content available on your channel, it will complete the selection with high-performing 3rd party options.
- Automatic recommendations will only select public videos and exclude private ones.
Contextual video matching
Allow Player to automatically choose video
The "Contextual video matching" feature allows you to embed a Player without defining content, and let our algorithm find the most relevant videos from your library based on the textual content of the page on which it is embedded.
You can define the source for the content:
- From this profile: The Player will select the most relevant content from your profile catalog
- From your Organization: The Player will select the most relevant content from your Organization catalog
Always provide a fallback video
The option "Always provide a fallback video" allows you to control whether your contextual Player may display fallback content or remain empty when no relevant content is found.
- On: If no relevant content is available, the Player will display recent uploads (from your profile or Organization, based on the defined content source) to ensure that there is always content shown and avoid empty Players.
- Off: The Player will only show content that matches the context of your page. If no relevant content is found from your selected source, the Player will remain empty.
Note
This setting can only be selected with Contextual video matching turned on
Limit days since upload
Define if the "Contextual video matching" feature can limit the video selection to recent content only (recency specified in days). The upload date of the content is used to determine its eligibility.
- On: The Player will only select content that isn't older than the defined number of days. By default, this is set to 1800 days (about 5 years). This date limitation will also apply on fallback results.
- Off: The Player will select any relevant content from your selected source, regardless of when it was uploaded.
Note
This setting can only be selected with Contextual video matching turned on
Player interface
Aspect ratio
The Player is fully responsive by default, it will inherit the width
from its parent container and automatically size the Player.
This setting allows you to force how the Player will render to adapt
it to your needs and content.
Select the aspect ratio that best fits your needs:
- Landscape Player: The aspect ratio 16:9 or 4:3 allow you to easily embed landscape videos
- Vertical Player: The aspect ratio 9:16 or 3:4 allow you to easily embed on native environments or reuse existing vertical videos on your website
- Square Player: 1:1
Depending on the embed method, the Player may have different behaviors:
- If you are using the Embed Script or the Library Script method, the aspect ratio is automatically enforced based on the Player configuration set in your Dailymotion Studio. Thanks to the smart autosizing feature, the Player will always render with the ratio defined in your Player settings, regardless of the video content. To display vertical videos (9:16), make sure your Player is configured with a 9:16 aspect ratio in the Studio.
- If you are using the iFrame method, the aspect ratio follows the video's own ratio rather than the Player configuration. This means a vertical video will render vertically even if your Player is set to 16:9. Note that advanced features such as aspect ratio enforcement from Player settings, Picture-in-Picture, and smart autosizing are not available with the iFrame method. If you need to force a specific ratio, you can do so using CSS on the iFrame container (see Preserve the player aspect ratio on a responsive page).
Check our dedicated guide to get more information about our Player integration methods.

highlights the next video in a "Watch now" card.
This helps boost viewers engagement. Viewers

- Close (x) the "Watch now" card to fallback on the full carousel with upcoming videos.
Tip: Combine "Watch now" with "Autonext" for a smooth, continuous viewing experience.
-

full carousel of next videos is displayed, either

if enabled.
This option offers viewers a greater variety of content.
