At Dailymotion, we have established clear rules regarding content that violates our Community Guidelines, as detailed in our Prohibited Content Policy, which forms an integral part of our Terms of Use. Therefore, we remove all content which infringes these guidelines. We also restrict the visibility of sensitive content that may offence vulnerable audiences.
However, we offer the opportunity for certain users to request a review of these decisions.
What is an appeal?
An appeal is an internal remedy which allows a user to request a review of a moderation decision.
Who can file an appeal?
Whether you have reported or posted content on Dailymotion, we allow you to challenge our moderation decision taken following a user report or automated detection.
How to file an appeal?
If you fall into one of the two cases mentioned above, you will receive an email at the end of the moderation process. This email contains all the information you need to file an appeal, as well as the hyperlink redirecting to the appeal form.
You will need to complete all the mandatory fields to submit your appeal.
Please note that:
- The “Reference Number” and “Moderation Date” are duly indicated in bold font in the abovementioned email.
- Appeal reason: you will need to provide grounds for your appeal such as removal of the content, reinstating, or unrestricting the content, etc.
- Additional information: use the “Description” field to provide us with complementary information on the reported content which would help us better understand the context (e.g., current events, relevant legislation, etc.).
You can only file an appeal for up to 6 months from the moderation date. If you file an appeal after this deadline, it will unfortunately not be processed.
What happens next?
Once you appeal has been processed by our moderation team, you will receive an email informing you of the outcome. Three types of decisions can be made:
- The content infringes our Prohibited Content Policy: we remove the content from our platform;
- The content does not infringe our Prohibited Content Policy: the content remains online;
- The content is not appropriate for all audiences: access to the content is restricted by a filter due to its sensitive nature. It is no longer accessible to all audiences and its visibility is reduced. It is also demonetized.
- The content is not suitable for advertising purposes: it will then be demonetized.
Additional information
- You can only appeal a moderation decision concerning you once.
- A moderation decision taken following a user report can be appealed both by the reporter and by the uploader. That means that a moderation decision taken following your appeal can be disputed by the other party.
- If you think that a moderation decision is against the law or if you consider yourself the victim of a content uploaded on Dailymotion, legal remedies are at your disposal (such as filing a complaint or application for summary proceedings).
