At Dailymotion, we work hard to create a safe and respectful platform for everyone.
By using Dailymotion, you have accepted our Terms of Use and Prohibited Content Policy , which prohibit copyright-infringing activities and violations of intellectual property rights of any third party on our service.
If you upload content that includes part or all of a copyrighted work (like music, video clips, or images) without permission from the copyright owner, and it doesn’t fall under a legal exception, that’s a copyright violation.
What happens if you break the rules?
If we receive a valid copyright notification about one of your videos:
- We’ll remove the video.
- You’ll get an email notification.
- If it’s your first time, this will be your first copyright strike.
- Each strike stays on your account for 90 days.
What if you get multiple strikes?
- Too many strikes within 90 days? You’ll be suspended from uploading content for 7 days.
- Still getting strikes after that? Your account will be permanently deleted, including all the videos you’ve uploaded.
Can you appeal?
Yes, you can appeal a copyright strike if you believe your use of the content is legal (for example, it falls under fair use or another exception). There’s a link in the email we send you to start that appeal.
If we agree with your appeal—or if the person who made the complaint withdraws it—we’ll restore your video and remove the strike.
Additional details
- For Partner Program members: if you’re part of the Dailymotion Partner Program, we may give you a short grace period before account deletion. During this time, you can archive any videos that don’t violate copyright rules.
-
How we decide on penalties: we follow the guidelines of the Digital Services Act (Article 23) when deciding whether to suspend or terminate an account. We consider:
- The type and seriousness of the violation
- The impact it may have
- The amount of infringing content shared
- Whether this content is a large portion of what you’ve uploaded
- And whether we can tell if the infringement was intentional
This helps us apply fair and balanced actions, especially for our partners.
